Fancy Five Star Treatment This Summer? Indulge in ultimate luxury in Mallorca

Mallorca Beach

I bet you’ve always thought Mallorca was just another typical bucket and spade holiday, right? Well, it kind of is, given the number of great beaches to play about on and yes, there are some areas that are renowned for hosting party hard Brits abroad but you can avoid these pretty easily and if five-star luxury is on the cards for you this summer, it’s all right here. Make like a millionaire in Mallorca and hang out with the jet-set in some of the island’s swankiest, upmarket resorts and hotels.

Sunset | Mallorca Coast

Sure, in recent years, some parts of the island have been portrayed as nothing more than nightclubs in the sun with loutish behaviour coming from some of the tourists who see their two-week holiday as carte blanch to get drunk and sunburnt – probably in that order and the images you see in some of the tabloids have perhaps given the wrong impression of the place. It’s not all lager lours and union jack shorts, you know.

Caló des Moro Beach | Mallorca

There is so much more to the charm and mystique of this beautiful island than stag parties in Magaluf, cheap booze and rowdy revellers. In fact, I can’t see past it. For me, Mallorca is the perfect holiday destination and if I could afford to up sticks, lock, stock and barrel to live there, I would do it in a heartbeat. It may come as a surprise to you but did you know that there is an abundance of five star hotels on the island and there’s also 10 Michelin stars shining across some of Mallorca’s finest restaurants. That alone should tell you that you will be rubbing shoulders with very discerning holidaymakers.

So, back to all these five star hotels…where do I start to suggest one for you? Each and every one of them is just gorgeous and they are not just confined to one pocket of the island so you can really make your mind up which area you want to be in and make your decision from there.

Palma Nova

Let’s start with Palma, the glorious capital and my favourite city in the world. It’s sophisticated, intimate, yet bursting with life. Located on the southern shores of Mallorca, the island’s capital city looks out over the sparkling blue seas of the Mediterranean and visitors can enjoy the island’s best restaurants, shops and nightlife as well as a thriving arts scene and a lively cafe society.

Designer Shopping | Mallorca

In keeping with my lust for luxury, there is some fabulous shopping in Mallorca and you will be impressed by the glamorous collections of clothes, shoes and jewellery on offer. I’d bring a spare credit card if I were you and if you’re going to stay in some of these elegant hotels, you will want to look the part, right? Head straight for Paseo del Borne and Avenida Jaime III for the best designer offerings such as Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton and Montblanc to name but a few.

Mallorca Promenade

If Palma is going to be your base and you don’t know which hotel to choose, take a look at these two five star beauties. First up, is one of my all-time favourites, The Gran Melia Victoria.

This upscale hotel is right on the promenade and is considered one of Mallorca’s best.

Convent de la Missio Courtyard | Mallorca

Another top choice is the Convent de la Missio, a charming hotel housed in an old convent dating back to the 17th century but is now a super chic des-res with ultra-modern décor. It’s also home to Michelin starred Simply Fosh restaurant. You won’t need to say your prayers staying here – it’s heaven!

Away from the capital there are loads more high-end hotels but I simply couldn’t fit in every one of them, (although I will add a list later on for you) so I am going to share with you my handpicked top three around the island. First up is The St Regis Mardavall which is located just a few minutes drive from the stunning spot of Puerto Portals. This beautiful hotel offers the luxurious Arabella Spa and also boasts a Michelin star in Es Fum restaurant.

Deia Village

Further north on the island’s west coast is the picturesque and dreamy village of Deia. Here you will find the famous La Residencia hotel, which was once owned by Sir Richard Branson and includes royalty and A list celebrities as some of its previous guests. It is now part of the luxury Belmond chain and still rates as one of the most intimate and beautiful boutique hotels on the island. Arguably one of the prettiest in the world, in my opinion.

Mallorca Harbour

My final suggestion would have to be the elegant and stylish Pure Salt Port Adriano in the serene and exclusive resort of Calvia. This hotel is for adult only so if you’re planning on a luxury break with the kids in tow, this is not the place for you. For couples? Oh my, it’s EXACTLY where you want to be. As the name suggests, the hotel overlooks the marina of Port Adriano and you can only imagine the setting.
