So it’s January, it’s dark, it’s gloomy, the weather’s rubbish and like us you’re probably dreaming of the beach. Imagine the sand under your feet, the sun warming your face and the sound of the waves lapping gently on the shore. Bliss!

So, with those thoughts in mind we’ve decided to put together a little list of the best beaches in the world. Turn your heating up full blast, grab a cocktail and feast your eyes on these beautiful sandy beaches…

Paxos, Greece

Paxos, Greece

The colour of this water is INCREDIBLE! It makes me want to dive into it immediately.

This can be found on Paxos, one of Greece’s Ionian Islands and the only way to get there is by boat which makes it wonderfully quiet, peaceful and secluded. Perfect for a relaxing day!

Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona has long been one of our favourite cities in the world with so much to do and see there. When your tired of sightseeing and wandering the city streets you always have the option to head to the beach and this makes Barcelona even more attractive.

Nissi Beach, Cyprus

Nissi Beach, Cyprus

If you’re looking for a beautiful but slightly more lively beach then Nissi Beach could be the one for you. It offers watersports including kayaking, jet skiing, pedalos and more. During the summer there’s also music played at the numerous beach bars and even some beach parties!

The beach becomes far more peaceful in winter as the party animals leave the island and you can have acres of the beach all to yourself.

North Berwick, Scotland

North Berwick, Scotland

Yes, you read that right – Scotland is home to some of the best beaches on earth, even if it doesn’t always have beach weather!

The beach at North Berwick, not far from the capital of Edinburgh, has a gloriously long sandy stretch, clear waters and gorgeous views. Sitting on the beach on a hot day during summer you could easily mistake it for somewhere far more exotic!

Bells Beach, Victoria, Australia

Bells Beach, Australia

This is a great spot for surfers in Australia and is just one of literally hundreds of stunning beaches along the world famous Great Ocean Road stretch. It seemed to me during my Great Ocean Road experience that at every turn we’d come across another jaw dropping beach so you’ll be spoiled for choice in this area!

Ko Phi Phi Lee, Thailand

Ko Phi Phi Lee Island, Thailand

No list of the best beaches in the world would be complete without including the actual setting of the film ‘The Beach’. The famous film was shot at Ko Phi Phi Lee beach in Thailand and since then the beach has been inundated with tourists who all want to visit the setting. It might not be the quietest or most original beach in the world, but it sure is beautiful!

What are the best beaches you’ve visited? Have you been to any of these ones?
